Printing for "SPREE" Exhibition at NYU

In December I'll be exhibiting my new self-published book of drawings,"SPREE", as well as a series of silkscreen prints from the book at New York University's Deutsches Haus. The opening is Dec. 1st from 6 - 8 p.m. SPREE is a 300 page collection of drawings I made during the three months I spent in Berlin, Germany in the summer of 2006, a free-flow of images that captures the hi's, low's and in-betweens of my experience there. Click here to see some more images from this book.
From 2000 to 2002 I studied painting and printmaking on a Fulbright scholarship at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin. The summer of 2006 was the first time I was able to get back and spend a longer period of time there. I made about 1000 drawings over three months, then spent the winter back in Brooklyn editing and combining them into "SPREE". The Spree river is one of two rivers that run through Berlin.
Below is the silkscreen table in my studio and one of the first print editions for the exhibit.

this is awesome, Doug! really exciting. i can't believe you made a 1000 drawings in those 3 months. and i never knew Spree was the name of the river in Berlin. i thought it was just from the motion/energy of your fast drawings. i always liked the name, now just more.

how many images are you printing? are they limited editions?

good luck and congrats!

It sounds like you are up some really fun stuff lately. I really like the New York Times illustrations you did.

By the way, I am finally getting the painting demo of yours framed.

It was great having you as an instructor at the academy. Keep in touch.

Hi Doug,

very nice blog. The Nation cover, New York times illustrations, exhibits... - things have really started snowballing, havent't they? Needless to say I'll be at the DH event.

All Best (and please say Hi to Nicola),

Thanks for the comments. I'm shooting to have 20-30 different prints at the exhibit, and each will be a limited edition of 15.
